An aircraft carrier is a type of warship that is equipped with a number of aircraft for aerial reconnaissance, bombing, and other missions. Aircraft carriers are the largest and most powerful ships in the world.
There are 26 active aircraft carriers in the world today. In this video/article, we are going to list the top 10 aircraft carrier countries in 2022.
1. United State
The United States is the country with the largest number of operational aircraft carriers. It has 11 ships in service and three more under construction.
The United States owns the USS Gerald R. Ford, the world’s largest aircraft carrier. It is the largest warship in the world at 1,106 feet in length and 112,000 tons in displacement. There can be more than 4,500 crew members on board.
2. United Kingdom
HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales are the two carriers that the Royal Navy is currently in service with.
The HMS Argus, built by the British navy during World War I in December 1922, was the first true aircraft carrier with an open flight deck.
3. Italy
The Cavour and Giuseppe Garibaldi are the two operational aircraft carriers of Italy. There is one ship under construction.
The Giuseppe Garibaldi is the first through-deck aviation ship ever built for the Italian Navy.
4. India
India has two aircraft carriers in service, and one is under construction. The most recent one is the 45,000-ton ship Vikrant, which can transport 30 aircraft and 1,700 sailors.
5. China
The first operational aircraft carrier in use in China is the 60,900-ton Liaoning. China currently has two aircraft carriers in service and one that is being built.
6. Egypt
There are no true aircraft carriers in the Egyptian Navy. They have two Mistral-class helicopter carriers.
Egypt is thought to be the only nation in Africa and the Middle East to have a helicopter carrier.
7. France
The French Navy’s only operational nuclear aircraft carrier is the Charles de Gaulle. There is one under construction and seven that have been decommissioned.
8. Russia
The Admiral Flota Sovetskogo Soyuza Kuznetsov is the only aircraft carrier operated by Russia. It was launched on December 4, 1985.
Its flight deck facility can carry up to 33 fixed-wing aircraft and 12 helicopters.
9. Spain
The Principe de Asturias is a light aircraft carrier and the flagship of the Spanish Navy.
10. Brazil
Sao Paulo was a Clemenceau-class aircraft carrier in service with the Brazilian Navy. It was first commissioned in 1963.
